The Creative Network for Framers

Purchasing frames for your photos or pictures might not seem like a big deal. However, people often purchase expensive pieces of art or wish to frame art that has historical or emotional relevance. These pieces deserve a beautiful frame.

Picture frames as a concept have been around since the times of the ancient Egyptians and the Greeks, where “framing borders” were used in paintings on pottery and walls to create sections of scenes. The twelfth and thirteenth centuries brought about the hand-carved, wooden frames that we recognise today.

A picture frame is a decorative edging for a picture, such as a painting or a photograph, intended to enhance it, make it easier to display or protect it.

Use a colour wheel to test various shades against the image. Look at your pictures and choose the element you’d like to call out, then match that shade to the mat. If you aren’t sure which direction to take, choose a high quality white or cream mat and use a simple frame in either black or a mid-tone wood.

The best way is to take your art piece into the framers and have a good chat, call by going directly to them via the directory or else I am happy to chat to you.
