Photo retouching is the process of altering an image to prepare it for final presentation. Usually completed after globalised adjustments (such as color correction), retouching is the polishing of an image.

In some cases photo retouchers may work as photographers as well. Photo retouching as a career generally involves using advanced computer imaging software to change the appearance of a photo or other digital image. Sharpening images or causing them to become blurry are two of the most common ways to retouch a photo.

Basic retouching means up working on an image — removing blemishes, brightening teeth, smoothing skin, or even removing an unsightly wire. The Retouch tool works by copying pixels from one area of your photo to another and then blending them (blurring, really) into the pixels.

Photo editing means minimising the quantity of the photos and provides the selected photos only. Photo enhancing means editing in the photo. You can change the color or brightness to enhance the beauty of an image. But, photo retouching is very much different than both photo editing and enhancing.

Beauty retouching is probably one of the most popular application areas in which Adobe Photoshop is used extensively. There are simple reasons for that. Photoshop offers a variety of advanced tools to smooth out skin and hair, optimise body proportions and emphasise some beautiful details.
