The Creative Network for Make-up Artists

Make-up Artists are beauty practitioners who offer general make-up services or work in prosthetic design. Their primary duties include enhancing facial aesthetics through make-up, creating custom looks for clients and working with actors on movie sets and photography stills.

Working with a MUA on set is fantastic and can only add benefit to the shoot, be it stills or the moving image. Some MAU also work with hair and then become HMU (Hair and make Up) Others choose to only specialise in Make-up . MAU are not only used on high-end fashion shoots as many people think, but also on corporate shoots where they need to make real people (not models) look their best.

It’s not always about lots of make-up to change the mood or feel, it can sometimes be just “touching up” skin blemishes and shiny faces too.

make-up artistry is a very broad field, and certain careers within the make-up industry will definitely be higher-paying than others. Some MAU work on creating total overhauls or characters, like aliens or bloodied arms in accidents or put bruises on faces after fight scenes.

Being a MUA is exciting and challenging and forever changing. You meet new people each time you work, from the very famous to the children and everyone in between.
