I was an agency art director for a long time. And I was good at it too. Over the years I worked in all kinds of agencies, on all kinds of brands and products.
When shooting campaigns, I worked with the best photographers around. As a keen amateur myself, I watched closely. I was interested and learned a lot.
So when an opportunity to shoot my own campaign came along. I jumped at it.
We were launching a points card called Earth. Three weeks, five countries, helicopters, speed boats and so, very much fun.
Who wouldn’t want to switch jobs after that?
So here I am, over a decade later, doing the thing I love.
Most of my work comes from ad agencies for clients like Telstra, Westpac, and many more. I shoot a lot of TVC stills, people, lifestyle, and studio work. I’m also working on a food portfolio as well.
The art director in me ‘gets’ ideas, brands, layouts, deadlines – the whole advertising process, end to end. But the photographer in me loves that instant of ‘getting the shot’. You see it through the lens, you click and you know that was ‘it’. And a few weeks later it’s up on a billboard.
Pretty addictive.
